A typical conservatory roof replacement takes around 2 to 4 days on-site, depending on the size, shape and specification of the roof.
At Nu-Look Conservatory Roof Solutions, we build each roof to suit the existing conservatory, so the installation process is carefully planned before work begins. Most of the construction can then be completed within a few days, with minimal disruption to your home.
So, what actually happens during those few days? Here’s a closer look at the typical conservatory roof replacement process.

Before installation day, there are a few important steps to take care of.
A member of the Nu-Look team will visit your home to discuss your requirements, look at your existing conservatory and talk you through the available roofing options.
This is also the opportunity to look at different tile and finish options, including lightweight composite Tapco tiles.
A qualified surveyor will take detailed measurements and assess the existing conservatory structure, including the window frames and supporting areas.
Your new roof is then designed around the existing structure. At Nu-Look, we build bespoke timber frameworks rather than using a one-size-fits-all system, allowing the roof to be tailored to the shape and size of your conservatory.
The necessary Building Regulations requirements are dealt with as part of the process, with the appropriate inspection and certification arranged before and during the installation.
Once everything has been approved and the materials are ready, an installation date can be arranged.

For most conservatories, the physical roof replacement takes 2 to 4 days.
The first step is to carefully remove the existing polycarbonate or glass roof.
The team will protect the surrounding areas and take responsibility for removing and disposing of the old roofing materials before preparing the conservatory for its new roof.
The bespoke timber framework is then constructed to suit the shape of the existing conservatory. Whether you have a Victorian, Edwardian, Lean-to, Gable, P-shaped or T-shaped conservatory, the framework is designed specifically for it.
Once the main structure is in place, it is covered with a waterproof membrane. This means the conservatory is made weatherproof as quickly as possible during the roof replacement.
With the timber framework of the conservatory roof complete, the focus turns to insulation and the external roof finish.
High-performance insulation is fitted within the roof structure to improve the thermal performance of the conservatory. Depending on the specification, this can include multi-foil and rigid insulation products such as Actis.
The external tiles are then fitted, along with the necessary ridge tiles, hip caps and flashings.
If you have chosen to include roof windows or glazed panels, these are also installed and sealed at this stage.
Fascias, soffits and guttering are fitted or reconnected to complete the outside of the roof.
Once the external roof is complete, attention moves inside. If you’re having new lighting, downlights or other electrical features, the first-fix electrical work is carried out before the ceiling is boarded.
Moisture-resistant plasterboard is then fitted to the underside of the roof, followed by a professional skim coat to create a smooth, finished ceiling. At this point, the main installation is essentially complete.
Although the physical roof installation may only take a few days, there are a few finishing stages to allow for afterwards.
Fresh plaster typically needs around 2 to 3 weeks to dry, depending on the temperature, ventilation and conditions inside the room.
Once it’s fully dried, the ceiling can be painted and decorated to match the rest of your home.
The second-fix electrics typically include fitting the new light fittings and switches, and are completed within a few days of the plastering.
The final stage is a walkthrough of the completed installation to make sure everything has been finished correctly.
You will also receive the relevant Building Regulations completion documentation and, where applicable, your 10-year insurance-backed guarantee certificate.

While many conservatory roof replacements can be completed in around 2 to 3 days, some projects take a little longer.
A small Lean-to or Edwardian conservatory with a straightforward roof design may be completed relatively quickly.
Larger P-shaped and T-shaped conservatories, or roofs with more complex angles and valleys, can take longer – typically around 4 to 5 days.
The installation can usually go ahead in a range of weather conditions, but particularly heavy rain, strong winds or snow can affect the schedule.
Because the existing roof needs to be removed before the new structure is made fully weatherproof, extreme weather may cause a short delay.
Adding features such as Velux roof windows, extensive LED lighting, new windows and doors, or other refurbishment work can increase the overall installation time.
Our installations department should be able to give you a more accurate timeframe once the survey and final specification have been completed.

At Nu-Look Conservatory Roof Solutions, the aim is to make the roof replacement process as straightforward as possible, from the initial survey through to the finished room.
With more than 40 years of combined experience and over 5,000 roof transformations, the team has experience working with a wide range of conservatory styles and roof designs. The service is also managed from start to finish, covering everything from surveying and roof construction to insulation, plastering, electrics and Building Regulations.
For additional peace of mind, Nu-Look also provides a 10-year insurance-backed guarantee with its conservatory roof installations. This means you have support and protection long after the installation is complete. You’ll also receive a detailed aftercare pack, providing you with everything you need to look after your new roof, including care and maintenance guidance, warranty information, and useful advice to help keep your conservatory roof looking and performing at its best for years to come.
